Chai Farm is located in Mevo Modi’in, in the heart of the lush Ben Shemen Forest, the largest “green lung” in Central Israel. The forest has over 22,000 dunams of forested areas, hiking routes, bicycle paths and picnic areas, and is the main leisure site for residents of Israel’s central region. The scenic roads in the forest are marked and feature landscapes and historical sites. The forest has many recreation areas, charming spots, archeological sites and a profusion of wildflowers in winter and spring. In the fall and spring migrating seasons, one can watch the storks that land to look for food in the farmed fields near the forest.
One of the unique sites in the vicinity are the Hasmonean Tombs, attributed to the graves of the Hasmoneans and the Maccabees. According to tradition, Matityahu, son of Yohanan the High Priest and father of the Maccabees, and his family were buried there.
We are part of a traditional Jewish community that immigrated to Israel in the 1970’s from five continents, to form rural life in Moshav Mevo Modi’in. The Community and the Moshav were founded by Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach Z”l in 1974, his original tunes and songs of prayer are being sung all over the world. Many of the residents of Mevo Modi’in highly talented artists.
